Craving For Massage? Here Are Do’s And Don’ts When Getting One!

6 January 2019  By BestMassageStores  Leave a Comment  massage therapy

Do you want to try out a world-class spa and pamper yourself with some “me” time? Well, getting a massage is not only an investment in your health. It’s also an investment coming from your pocket.

And like any investment out there, you want to ensure that you are getting more than what you actually shelled out. But, how do you make sure of it?

The first thing you should do when trying out a massage is to determine the right treatment appropriate for you. Massage therapy is definitely a great way to relax. However, it can also help you with certain body conditions you might be experiencing.

For example, do you currently have lower back pain or stiffness of the neck? Then, probably a therapeutic deep tissue massage might be best for you. Or, do you wish to enhance your workout or sports performance? Well, a pro-sports massage is recommended. Maybe you’re simply looking for a sensory experience? Aromatherapy massage where essential oils are used might be the best option.

It is suggested that you research beforehand and consult with a healthcare professional before you opt for a massage. After which, you can discuss various options with the massage therapist for best results.

Once you have made your decision and the session has already been booked, you can follow the tips below to enhance your experience:

Before The Actual Massage Session

  • Avoid eating heavy, fully-loaded meals before a massage session. This can make you feel uncomfortable during the actual massage treatment.
  • Limit your intake of caffeine. The substance can make you jittery. This prevents your body from relaxing during the treatment.
  • You can also try to get into a jacuzzi tub. This warms your body up and will help calm you physically and mentally.
  • Do take a shower before your massage. This will open up your pores and start the process of detoxification.
  • Do light stretches before the actual treatment. This will warm your muscles up for the massage.
  • Drink a lot of water. If you’re dehydrated, you can experience lightheadedness and nausea during your session.
  • You can use the restroom before the massage session. This will prevent interruptions during the massage therapy.
  • DO NOT partake in heavy workouts before the session. This will make your muscles tense and will prevent your therapist from making you more comfortable.
  • DO NOT shave before the massage. Avoid shaving before undergoing body or even facial treatments.

Do’s And Dont’s During The Massage Session

  • Do your best to unplug. Put your devices (including your smartphone) in a locker. Put your focus on being calm both physically and mentally. Be present and mindful during your massage therapy.
  • Make yourself comfortable. If you do not want to totally undress yourself, that’s okay. Make yourself as comfortable as possible so you can relax completely.
  • Speak up if you wish. If you think the therapist is being too hard on pressure or even too soft, let him or her know.
  • You can also follow up. If the treatment you opted for addresses a particular issue, talk to your therapist about follow ups to ensure you meet your goals.
  • DO NOT overthink during the massage session. This is your time to be calm and relaxed. It won’t help with the treatment.

After The Treatment

  • You can eat a light meal after your session. This can help to bring your blood sugar up. Spas even provide small snacks to nibble on and this can help enhance your massage experience.
  • You can go for a 15 to 20 minute steam after the massage. This helps to open your pores and release toxins as you sweat them out.
  • Drink plenty of water. This will help flush toxins and even lactic acids roused during the massage therapy.
  • You can also soak yourself at home with magnesium Epsom salt to further release toxins. You can do this for about 15 to 20 minutes.
  • DO NOT go for a heavy exercise. DO NOT participate in strenuous activities as well. This can lead to lightheadedness.

Putting It All Together

There are things to do and things to avoid in order to get the most out of your massage treatment. It is best to follow the guidelines outlined here in order to make the most out of your therapy. And if you’re in dire need of professional massage treatments for whatever reason, you can visit our site here to locate the spa or therapist that you require.
