1. Request The Massage Style Of Your Preference When Scheduling

Have you ever tried finishing a massage session and feeling awful? Well, that can be possible. Therapists are actually trained to help their client’s body. But, of course, they can’t read the patient’s mind.

Consider scheduling a massage session and telling the receptionist that you have preferences with regards to which therapist, massage type, and pressure you prefer. For instance, you might want to opt for relaxation at one point and then deep tissue injury at another time.

2. Timing Is Everything

4. You Can Exercise Before The Actual Therapeutic Session

Have the same fitness class and massage session in one day? Well, that’s perfectly fine. You can hit the gym before (and not after) the massage session. If you work out before the session, the muscles might be tired. However, they will be warmed up and prepped for massage.

Generally, exercising immediately after a session isn’t recommended. This is because the muscles that were relaxed during the massage will be strained and stressed. Working out after a massage might result to injuring yourself. Or, you’ll simply be extremely tired.

If you had yourself worked out deeply during the massage session, it’s recommended that you wait for at least 12 hours before exercising. This allows your body to heal itself from the therapeutic session.

5. Warm Showers Before The Session Is Recommended

To get the best possible experience, it is recommended that you take a warm shower before heading to the spa. This is the easiest way to prep yourself up for the session. A hot shower is best to relax your mind and body.

Plus, the muscles will become less tense because of prepping yourself up. You will be less insecure about dressing down for the session. In addition, your therapist will be happy that you took the time to look and smell fresh before the massage.

6. It’s Okay To Be Drop-Down Nude

You might feel insecure about stripping down for the massage session. But, it’s actually totally okay. Trained to work with your body, massage therapists are used to seeing people dressed down.

Undressing in front of a stranger can be uncomfortable. However, it’s important that you remove clothing up to the point where you’re comfortable. Therapists will cover you with sheets or drapes wherever it is appropriate.

However, it might be important to note that undergarments can get in the way of certain strokes and pressure points. But still, the client comes first. That’s why it’s better to undress yourself up to the point where you are okay with it.

7. Take Note Of Your Breathing

When your therapist is working on something that is tense and deep, you might turn to the normal reaction of holding your breath. However, it is recommended that you don’t do this. You might not be able to experience the benefits of massage by holding your breath all throughout the session.

It is important that you breath in and out deeply during the massage therapy in order to bring oxygen into your blood. Plus, it helps to aid muscles that are tense.

8. Yes, You Can Speak Up

You might think that it’s awkward to tell what you want and what you do not want. However, that’s really what the therapist wants. The worst thing you can do is to shut your mouth during the session without telling them your wants and needs.

During the session, it is best to talk to your therapist if something he or she does is uncomfortable. Or, if you have question, you might just make a good conversation out of it. To put it into perspective, this is your session after all, and you want to make the most out of it. That’s why you have to speak up.

9. Digestive Functions Can Happen

Do you want to get a massage once every few years? Well, that isn’t going to help that much. One massage therapy can bring benefits. That’s really true. However, if you want to get the best possible benefit from this therapy, it is best to do it consistently over a long period of time.

Massage therapy can actually be a part of your wellness regimen. You can get a massage at least once a month or every 6 weeks. Every muscle pain and tightness won’t go away that easily. Of course, you are constantly on the move and you use your body all the time. However, with constant massage work, you can help loosen up your muscles and consistently enjoy the benefits of this therapy.

11. Drink A Lot Of Water After The Session

It is very important that you drink a lot of water after the massage session. Like that of workouts, massage can lead to the dehydration of muscle tissues. Drinking a lot of water can help rehydrate your body, build healthy muscular tissues, and eliminate metabolic wastes accumulated on muscles that are worked out.

12. Nope, It Shouldn’t Be Painful

No pain, no gain? Well, that’s not quite right when it comes to massage therapies. You might experience some pain when stretching or having a lot of tensed and tight muscles. However, relaxation is one of the major benefits of massage.

If too much heavy pressure is applied, it can result in more pain. Plus, it can even lead to bruising and and muscle damage. That’s why it’s important to speak up and let your therapist know if you are hurting. They won’t take it seriously and even be happy that you spoke up.

13. No Lattes For You!

Do you currently have an early morning therapy session. Well, don’t drink your coffee after. Be sure to sip that hot cup of coffee before the massage. When you take on caffeinated drink after a therapeutic session, it can lead to muscles becoming tense.

These muscles have just been loosened by your therapist. And now, drinking coffee would lead you to putting all that hard work down the drain. Just drink water or herbal tea instead. It would do you great wonders.

From requesting your preferred massage style to skipping the caffeinated drinks after a session, there are a lot of things your massage therapist wants you to be aware of. It is best to take these down and let it sink into your brain to get the best experience ever.
